LPG prices cut by ₹200

'PM Modi's gift for Raksha Bandhan'

The Union Cabinet on Tuesday lowered by 200 rupees the price of a 14.2 kilogram LPG cooking gas cylinder, as a gift for the women in advance or Rakshabandhan .The decision was made as criticism of the Centre for its handling of rising inflation has grown.

The price of residential cylinders would be reduced by 200 rupees in honor of Raksha Bandhan and Onam, according to Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur. This is a present from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the women of the country.

Beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) are also affected by the price drop.

In the national capital, a 14.2 kilogram LPG (liquid petroleum gas) cylinder currently costs 1,103. The cost will decrease to 903 as of Wednesday.

The cost will be 703 rupees for those who are enrolled in the PM's Ujjwala program. The PM Ujjwala scheme was expanded by the government in March and now includes a 200 rupee per LPG cylinder subsidy.

Under tha Ujjwala scheme, the government has announced to provide 75 lakh new LPG connections for free, thakur said.

In present, there are atleast 9.6 crore people who are taking benefit of this scheme.
