Madhya Pradesh: 13 killed in auto-bus collision in Gwalior

Twelve women who died in the accident were cooks at an anganwadi and were returning home from work.


In a horrific tragedy, 13 people were killed in an autorickshaw-bus collision in Old Chawni area in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior city on Tuesday morning, police said. Twelve women and a man who was the autorickshaw driver died in the mishap after the autorickshaw collided with the speeding bus.

District SP Amit Sanghi said that eight women and the autorickshaw driver died on the spot while the others succumbed to their injuries in a hospital. All women were "anganwadi" cooks who were on their way home from work. A senior official said that the passengers of the bus were unhurt while the bus driver fled the spot.

Gwalior collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh said that the women were supposed to travel in two autorickshaws but one of them developed a snag at the last moment due to which they were left with no other option. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan condoled the deaths and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the victims.
