Maharashtra: Assembly Speaker suspends 12 BJP MLAs for one year

In the two-day monsoon session, the Opposition created uproar over demand for reservation for Other Backward Castes (OBC).

12 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs were suspended for one year by the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Bhaskar Jadhav for allegedly abusing and misbehaving with him on Monday. However, the Opposition has in turn alleged that the Speaker-in-chair abused some of their leaders. A resolution was passed to suspend the 12 MLAs whose names are as follows- Sanjay Kute, Ashish Shelar, Atul Bhatkalkar, Abhimanyu Pawar, Girish Mahajan, Harish Pimpale, Parag Alavni, Vijay Kumar Rawal, Yogesh Sagar, Narayan Kuche, Ram Satpute and Kirtikumar Bangdia. In the two-day monsoon session, the Opposition created uproar over demand for reservation for Other Backward Castes (OBC). After the House was adjourned, the Speaker alleged that the Opposition leaders came to his cabin and abused him using unparliamentary language in front of Leader of the Opposition, Devendra Fadnavis and senior leader Chandrakant Patil. He added that some leaders even "manhandled him." Whereas Mr Fadnavis insisted that the allegations are "false" and none of them abused the Speaker.
