Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray calls all-party meet today

The Maharashtra Government has imposed a weekend lockdown across the state till 7 am on Monday while night curfew is already in place.


Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday has called an all-party meeting to review the Covid situation of the state and also discuss the proposal of a complete lockdown. The meeting will be held through video conferencing. The development comes after Maharashtra recorded 58,993 new COVID-19 cases and 301 deaths on Friday.

The Maharashtra Government has imposed a weekend lockdown across the state till 7 am on Monday while night curfew is already in place. All essential services will be provided during the lockdown. However, the decision of closure of non-essential services received flak from the traders and opposition parties.

The State Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Friday said longer lockdown is needed in the current Covid situation of the state. Similarly, relief and rehabilitation minister Vijay Wadettiwar said a three-week lockdown is needed to curb the pandemic. Meanwhile, the state government has postponed the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination which was supposed to be held on April 11.
