Main accused in the Badaun gang-rape and murder case held

A priest and two others gang- raped and murdered a 50-year-old anganwadi worker in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.


Months after the brutal gang-rape and murder of a Dalit woman in Hathras, another case of a 50-year-old woman being gang-raped and murdered from Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh came to light on Sunday. The main accused, Satyanarayan, a priest was arrested by the police on Thursday while two others who are said to be his disciples were arrested on Wednesday.

"On Thursday midnight, that 'mahant' (priest) Satyanarayan was hiding in the house of his follower in a village under Ughaiti police station from where he was picked up," District Magistrate Kumar Prashant said. The victim. an anganwadi worker, had gone to the temple on Sunday where she was sexually assaulted and murdered by the three accused. They brought her in their own vehicle and dropped her in front of her house at 11:30 pm and left hurriedly, the woman's son told in an interview.

The post mortem reports revealed injuries to the women's private parts. Dr Yashpal Singh, Chief Medical Officer, said, " The post mortem reports show minor injuries to private parts, there are tears and she has a fracture on one of her legs. There was excessive bleeding and the bleeding led to shock and that led to the patient's death. Prima facie we found evidence of rape." A case has been registered against the accused.
