Mallikarjun Kharge New Congress President

'Revival of Party has Truly Begun', Shashi Tharoor


On Wednesday, Veteran Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge was elected as the new party chief after he polled nearly 8,000 votes in the presidential election. 


As per the information, Kharge will formally take over as party chief on October 26.


Shashi Tharoor, who garnered nearly 1,100 votes, conceded defeat minutes after the announcement and said that the "Revival of our Party has Truly Begun today".


According to the statement given by Shashi Tharoor said: "I went to his (Mallikarjun Kharge) residence and congratulated him on his victory. He is a senior leader and will always guide the party. I am extremely happy as over 1,000 delegates voted for me. 


He further added; ``our workers are the real pride of our party. “We should consider Kharge Ji's victory as the victory of the Congress party. This election was never about a person but always about the party. I always wanted to strengthen the party because strengthening Congress is very important for the country," he said.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi wishes Kharge for his win. According to the tweet he wrote, congratulations to Mallikarjun Kharge for being elected the new Congress president. 


Congress MP Randeep Surjewala announced that the veteran leader would take charge as party president on October 26.
