Mamata Banerjee Closer To Victory In Asansol By-polls

West Bengal CM and TMC supremo thanks voters!


West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee thanked her voters as the party is just inches closer to a victory in Asansol bypolls.

On Saturday, The results for one Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal's Asansol and the Assembly seat in Ballygunge will be declared. The counting is currently underway. As of 12.30 pm, TMC's Shatrughan Sinha was leading in the Asansol seat by 1, 02,000 votes.

Taking to twitter, the CM wrote: "I sincerely thank the electors of the Asansol Parliamentary Constituency and the Ballygunge Assembly Constituency for giving a decisive mandate to AITC party candidates."

In another tweet, she called it the victory was people's Shubho Nababarsho gift to the TMC. "We consider this to be our people's warm Shubho Nababarsho gift to our Ma- Mati- Manush organization. Salute to the voters for reposing faith in us, yet again," she said.

The voting was marred by violence, with the Bharatiya Janata Party alleging that its candidate for the Asansol bypoll, Agnimitra Paul, was attacked by TMC workers. The CBJP accused TMC workers of pelting stones at the cars of its leaders.

The TMC has fielded Shatrughan Sinha, who was earlier with the BJP, in Asansol against the BJP's Agnimitra Paul.

The by-election was necessitated as Babul Supriyo resigned as the MP of Asansol after leaving the BJP and joining the TMC.

Meanwhile, Babul Supriyo is fighting the Ballygunge Assembly bypoll against CPM candidate Saira Halim Shah.
