Man becomes Millionaire overnight as Meteorite crashes through his roof.

Man's life changes after a gift from space

Josua Hutagalung, 33, Indonesian coffin maker from North Sumatra became rich after he recently sold a meteorite at a price of £1.4 million, the meteorite is Carbonaceous Chondrite, an extremely rare variety which is worth around $1.85 million. Hutangalung was working outside his house in August when the space rock shard crashed through the roof of his house.

“The sound was so loud that parts of the house were shaking too. And after I searched, I saw that the tin roof of the house had broken,” Hutangalung said. He firmly suspected that the object was from outer space, “because it was impossible for someone to deliberately throw  it or drop it from above,” he said. “When I lifted it, the stone was still warm, and I brought it into the house,” Hutangalung further added.

The meteor weighs around 2.1kg and is an extremely rare variety estimated to be 4.5 billion years old. According to the Lunar and Planetary Institute in Texas, US, the meteorite has been officially named as Kolang. The rock sank around 15cm deep into the soil and broke into three chunks, which were discovered in the nearby area, with one landing in a paddy field fewer than 5 miles from Hutagalung’s house.

US meteorite expert Jared Collin, who purchased the part of main mass said, “My phone lit up with crazy offers for me to jump on a plane and buy the meteorite. It was in the middle of the Covid crisis and frankly it was a toss-up between buying the rock for myself or working with scientists and collectors in the US. I carried as much money as I could muster and went to find Josua, who turned out to be a canny negotiator.”
