Man Dies During Smile Surgery in Hyderabad

Wedding Plans shattered weeks before the ceremony

The police reported that a man from Hyderabad passed away during a surgery aimed at improving his smile before his wedding last week.

Laxmi Narayana Vinjam, aged 28, died while undergoing a 'smile designing' procedure at the FMS International Dental Clinic located in Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills on February 16, according to officials.

Laxmi Narayana Vinjam's father has claimed that his son's death was due to an overdose of anesthesia.

Ramulu Vinjam stated that when his son fainted during the surgery, the clinic staff contacted him and requested him to come to the clinic. "We hurriedly took him to a nearby hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival," he mentioned.

Mr. Vinjam expressed that his son had not informed them about the surgery beforehand. He emphasized that his son had no underlying health issues, placing responsibility for his death on the doctors involved in the procedure.

K. Venkateshwar Reddy, the Station House Officer of Jubilee Hills, informed NDTV that Laxmi Narayana had arrived at the clinic around 2:30 PM on February 16th.

"At around 4:30 PM, he was taken into the operation theatre, and the procedure lasted for almost two hours. By around 7 PM, they had notified his father, and he was promptly transported to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival," stated Mr. Reddy.

He mentioned that Laxmi Narayana's body has been sent for autopsy. Laxmi Narayana had become engaged just a week prior, and he was scheduled to get married next month.

A case of negligence has been filed against the clinic following a complaint from his family. Officials stated, "We are examining the hospital records and reviewing security camera footage."

FMS International, as stated on its website, asserts that it has been recognized as one of the most awarded dental clinics in India since 2017, boasting over 55 awards.
