In Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, a man was arrested by police on Friday for marrying a woman without revealing his religious identity.
Following their marriage, he reportedly started pressuring the woman to convert to his religion, as per the authorities.
The Superintendent of Police office stated in a release that, according to a complaint filed at Robertsganj Kotwali, Sahjeb, also known as Rohan Rai, initially met her on Facebook and subsequently married her.
The release further stated that after the marriage, Sahjeb began demanding dowry from her, pressuring her to convert to his religion, and even threatening to harm her life.
Police mentioned that based on the complaint, the man was charged under the Uttar Pradesh Religious Conversion Act and was subsequently arrested on Friday.
