Man in Priest’s Dress Arrested for Selling Ganja in Chennai

Police arrested Damu red-handed for selling ganja outside temples...


A 50-year-old man, dressed in saffron clothes, posing to be a priest was arrested by police in Chennai for selling contraband. Officials, after receiving information that ganja was being sold in temple premises, they started tracking people near temples. They found M Damu from Royapettah, dressed like a priest, outside different temples in Mylapore and Royapettah.

 

Officials Showcased as buyers, met the saffron clad man outside a temple on Elephant Tank Street in Ice House. Damu supplied ganja packed in newspapers to the officials, then he was arrested red-handed. The police found 7 kg of Ganja on him. Also, based on the information from Damu, two of his friends were also taken into custody.

 

The two other men were identified as M Raja and E Aasaithamni from Theni and Mayiladuthurai respectively.

Officials said that Damu changed his location every week to avoid suspicion. The two suppliers allegedly smuggled the product from Andhra Pradesh to sell it in Tamil Nadu.

 

The police department has been involved in a massive drive against contraband in the last two weeks and have seized over 1400 kg of ganja. Police has taken over 5000 men into custody for selling gutkha and ganja.
