Man kills two men by smashing their head in their sleep

A ragpicker who smashed two sleeping person’s head in a span of 15mins arrested


 A 40-year-old ragpicker was arrested by the JJ Marg police for allegedly killing a man who was asleep on the footpath. He smashed the sleeping man’s head with a paver block. The accused, Suresh Gauda was arrested by the investigators with the help of CCTV footage.

 

Reportedly, during the interrogation the accused admitted to killing another man in a similar manner just 15minutes prior to going for the second kill. He smashed the other man’s head with a large stone at Byculla on the night of October 23. Both the identities of the men who were killed are still unknown. The murderer didn’t know either of the victims. Gauda told the police that he had been arrested before in 2015 in connection with a similar murder in Kurla but he was acquitted by the court in that case.

 

On October 23, on finding a person’s smashed head near the Byculla fruit market the Byculla police alerted other police stations about the murder. Soon after the JJ Marg police received a call about another person being killed in a similar manner on the footpath in their jurisdiction. The body has been sent to the hospital for post-mortem. The police later scanned the CCTV footage and the accused was arrested.

 

Gauda lived on the pavement in Pydhonie area, collected and sold old scrap metal, bottles and other waste for a living. The police team will be visiting his parents who live in Karnataka. The accused has been sent to the judicial custody. Byculla police who has registered a murder case will now move court to seek Gauda’s custody in the case. The police are also trying to find if the accused had committed any other crimes in the past.

 

Dilip Sawant, additional police commissioner, south region confirmed the arrest and said police will be probing the case further. Cases with similar modus operandi will be at the centre of the probe. Inspector Laxmikant Salunke is the investigating officer and the police is making further inquires for the motive behind the two murders is still unknown.
