Manipur creates 18 reserved posts for Olympians in sports department

The new posts include 10 positions of assistant director for the participants, five posts of deputy director for medal winners, and three posts of joint director for gold medal winners at the Olympic Games.


Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday said that in a recent meeting, the state Cabinet created 18 posts and reserved them for state Olympians in the Youth Affairs and Sports Department.

On the arrival of hockey Olympians Nilakanta Sharma and Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, the Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the Education Minister Sorokhaibam Rajen gave them a warm welcome.

The new posts that have been created by the state Cabinet includes 10 positions of assistant director for the participants, five posts of deputy director for medal winners and three posts of joint director for gold medal winners at the Olympic Games. In addition, the state government has promised to focus on the development of games and sports, to inculcate discipline and manners among the youths.

N Biren Singh said as the state government is trying hard to end the drug menace, it is imperative to encourage the youth to make them feel interested in sports in place of getting addicted to intoxicating substances.

Meanwhile, as the state players have performed their best in the Tokyo Olympics, N Biren Singh exclaimed the talented Olympians will be a source of inspiration among the youths of the state.

Moreover, the government is planning to develop Manipur Olympians’ Park, a tourist site in Imphal West for honoring the Olympians from the state. The park will involve statues of Olympians from Manipur with enough space to accommodate future Olympians.
