Several suspected insurgents opened fire at a gathering in a village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Tuesday. Four villagers were killed including an 8-year-old boy while 2 others were injured in the incident. As per sources, the villagers were conducting a condolence service at B Ganom village ground when the militants suddenly opened fire at the gathering which took place around 11:30 am. Two villagers including village chief NP Kholen died on the spot. Later two more bodies with bullet injuries were recovered from the vicinity.

The death count is likely to increase said the Manipur police since they have received reports of people missing. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the incident calling it an act of terrorism.

The incident took place two days after insurgents of the banned Kuki National Liberation Army (KNLA) from the nearby villages were killed by the security forces. On Sunday, four cadres of KNLA were killed in an encounter with the combined forces comprising the army and Assam Rifles at Hingojang.
