A major drug bust was conducted by the Manipur police on Tuesday where a Rajasthani man with 136.03 kg of opium was arrested from Imphal.

The superintendent of Manipur Police, Imphal West district, Ksh Shivkanta Singh said the arrest and the further confiscation of drugs were made by a team of Manipur police commandos based on reliable input.

Shivkanta Singh said, “We received an input about transportation of narcotic items. Following this, a team of district police commando unit led by its officers rushed to Minuthong area in Imphal. The police commando team intercepted a truck bearing registration number RJ19GG-0025 near Minuthong area at around 6:30 pm,”.

The superintendent reported that drugs were concealed in hidden compartments of the accused’s truck carrying plywood. The drugs that were confiscated are worth over Rs 10 crore in the international market.

The person arrested is identified as Saddhik Mohammad, a 44-year-old man, son of Safi Mohammad of Indra Nagar Jodhpur. The police also informed that Saddhik on questioning disclosed that the opium was handed to him by an unknown person sent through his partner Om Prakash of Jodhpur.

The drugs were supposed to reach Rajasthan. The superintendent said that the truck came from Rajasthan with a plywood consignment and arrived in Imphal where the arrest happened. The opium was being smuggled back to Rajasthan on its way back to the state.

The police reported there were a total of 138 packets of opium weighing approximately 136.03 kg. The police said they found 131 packets in a specially prepared box under the vehicle and seven from the dashboard near the driver’s cabin.
