Maoists release abducted CRPF commando after five days

CRPF jawan Rakeshwar Singh Manhas was released unconditionally by Maoists on Thursday evening.

The abducted Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF) CoBRA battalion commando, Rakeshwar Singh Manhas, was released unconditionally by Maoists on Thursday evening after keeping him five days in captivity. The official sources said Mr Manhas was released to a group of journalists, local leaders and social activists at an undisclosed location in the forests of South Bastar in Chhattisgarh. He was handed over to social worker Dharamlal Saini and tribal community leader Telam Boraiya.

Following the release, Mr Manhas was taken for a primary medical check-up to the CRPF Camp hospital at Basaguda while he is currently in quarantine. Twenty-two security personnel were killed in a gun-battle with Maoists in Tekulguda village on April 3. It was an eleven member group that went inside the jungles to get him released.

The Maoists had released a press note on Tuesday and demanded the government to issue a list of interlocutors. While the government was still discussing, a team of seven journalists along with four social activists left Wednesday afternoon to receive the CoBRA jawan, reported The Indian Express.

Meanwhile Mr Manhas' wife Meenu Manhas expressed gratitude towards everyone who helped in the release of her husband and his four-year-old daughter Raghvi rejoiced the release of her father.
