Marco Scarfò, an Entrepreneurial Miracle, from "None” to “The Most Famous”...

Director and Curator of ‘Scarfo Galleries’

Marco was born in Turin, Italy, in 9th March 1978. He belonged to a working class family. Both parents work at municipality. Also, his father is an artist sculptor, writer and a journalist.

Due to the financial set back and the lack of economic possibilities lead Marco to travel to Europe in search of temporary work from 2000 to 2004 until he leaves for Mexico in 2005, where he begins his adventure in the world of tattooing and art.

In conversation with Marco, it has been ask what you think about the tattoo world.

Personally it's a way to be able to express your emotions, your dreams and also the memories, the tattoo world is a world of artists and I am passionate about art in general, as long as I also manage the gallery of art currently recognized as the most important in the city. Currently I am the manager of The Most Famous Studio in Perpignan, at 32 Rue Jean Payra, an internationally renowned studio, published as the best in the Pyrénées Orientales where the best French and European artists come to work.

What style do you prefer?

I love all tattoos, if they are made with passion and quality. I want to give customers the best result and the best follow-up. Art is my first objective, in my studio I always propose complete projects, I am a specialist in all types of style and technique, from realism to trash polka, from graphics to new school, from black to colors, there are no secrets, even the most complex covers, everything is possible in my studio.

Why did you choose tattoo and art gallery?

I've been in the art world since I was little, my father is an artist, I think it's a family passion. I entered the tattoo business in 2004 by chance, with a friend who introduced me to this world. From that moment, I started to practice, then to travel to go to some conventions. Then in 2006 I was managing the most famous studio in Cancun, Mexico, the “Crazy Tattoo ", I started creating t-shirts on the subject of dermography and I sold products for tattoos and piercings. Today, since 2019, I own “The Most Famous Studio ", the tattoo and permanent makeup studio published 3 times in first pages of local journals, recognised as the most famous in Europe and sponsored internationally by some of the best brands.

Are there many artists in France?

It's very difficult to say, there are thousands in France, but the number of very high level artists is not huge. So there is the possibility of success.

Do you think tattooing is more a fashion or a lifestyle?

The tattoos have become, rather than a fashion, a trend and it has evolved more and more, it is also very accepted and it is now part of our society as an expression of the human being.

What future for art?

In my opinion, art is a tool to express oneself, one's conscience which is exteriorized and shaped for example in painting, sculpture, photography and tattooing. - Art in the skin is practically born with the human being, with the need to be part of a group, a family, an ideal. Also used at therapeutic level, for example in the United States, for veterans; even in Italy there is talk of medical tattoos, to camouflage post-operative scars, so I think it will never end to exist.

What are the current artistic trends?

Currently there are several trends. If we talk about the tattoo, we have ignorant style, pop, trash polka, abstract, realism. For me there is no preference, but I am specialized in medium to large pieces, starting from a hand sized tattoo. Simply for a matter of ethics, I don't tattoo hands and face if I don't see other visible tattoos on clients.

If instead we refer to art such as painting and sculpture, we are starting to see a series of mixes between the traditional, the psychedelic or street-art and hyper-realism with the ornamental and cubism. The artists experiment but there is still little innovation, rather a mix of already known techniques and styles.

My mission has just begun, it was tough during the three lock downs, many closed permanently, but I resisted and gave my all to always give my best, I exhibited some of the most famous artists in the world in my gallery for their World Premiere, names like Rich Harris, Al Sigal, Jayfreestyle / James Asher, Steve Butcher, Will Yu, Maria Kleis and more. I receive the most selected and talented artists, this year the best and most famous tattoo artist in the world in black realism will exclusively arrive to work in my studio.

For me it's like a dream coming close to reality... from being nobody to realizing an entrepreneurial miracle, to inspire creatives and young entrepreneurs all over the world. I invite you to discover my studio and gallery to realize our high quality and professionalism. Every day I strive to give my best and I work by appointment, so I give the time and attention to my clients one by one.
