Chief Minister announced compensation for dead in factory blast


The incident took place in plastic factory at Sujapur in North Bengal’s Malda district on Thursday around 11 in the morning. At least five persons were killed and four others critically injured in the blast. The health secretary instructed district officials to ensure that the treatment is conducted with priority as the injured are being treated in Malda Medical College and Hospital

Alapan Bandopadhyay, Chief secretary said, “State Municipal affairs and Urban Development minister Firad Hakim left for the spot in a helicopter and ensured that the compensation amount will be handed over to the families immediately.”

He further added that an enquiry has been initiated in the incident and DM, SP and all other senior officials were at the spot. In a preliminary inquiry it has been revealed that the blast took place during the manufacturing of plastic goods. Later, SP Alok Rajoria also revealed that a heavy machine with about 45 horsepower exploded.

“A blast took place inside this factory where plastic is melted for further use. The machine which is electrically powered malfunctioned and blew up killing five and injuring several others,” said SP Alok Rajoria, Malda.

The state government has announced a compensation of two lakh Rupees for the relatives of the dead while fifty thousand Rupees for those who injured in the blast. “Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee has directed that compensation is given quickly and a thorough inquiry is conducted into the incident,” Bandopadhyay said.
