Medical student stabbed to death

Following the murder of a MBBS student in Maharashtra, students and doctors went on strike


On Thursday, a final year MBBS student of Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College Hospital at Yavatmal in Maharashtra was allegedly murdered. The incident prompted other students and resident doctors at the government hospital to go on strike. The victim, Ashok Pal who was 24-year-old hailed from Thane. He was found around 8:50 pm badly injured state near the college’s hostel on Wednesday.

 

He was then admitted in the accident ward of the hospital where he later died. As per the complaint that has been filed by the medical superintendent Dr Surendra Bhuyar, at first the college authorities thought it was an accident but on seeing the stab injuries on Pal’s chest it was clear that it was not just an accident. Two accused has been arrested on suspicion, 21-year-old Aakash Gofne and 24-year-old Tushar Nagdevte, residents of Waghapur in Yavatmal district said superintendent of police Dilip Bhujbal.

 

Apparently, on August 30 this year, the accused was found urinating near the girl’s hostel and had got into a fight with pal and other students over it, informed the college authorities. The Superintendent further added that Gofne and Nagdevta had allegedly threatened Pal during that incident. The police are for another accused.

 

 

As an aftermath of the incident, the MBBS students as well as the resident doctors and nurses at the hospital went on a strike on Thursday to protest against the murder. A post- mortem was conducted in the hospital and the uncle of the deceased claimed the body which was taken to his native place Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh. As per sources, the in-charge dean of the college Dr Milind Kamble is ready to resign as demanded by the protesting students if that resolves the issue.
