Mercury dips In Delhi-NCR

IMD predicted more rain in the region!


On Sunday, Cold winds and rain swept through the National Capital and its adjoining areas, including Noida and Gurugram, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the Delhi was likely to experience a few light to moderate spells of showers on the intervening night of January 29 and January 30.

The maximum temperature on Sunday dipped to 17.2 degrees Celsius, which is five degrees below then the normal for this time.

After touching 10 degrees Celsius last week, morning temperatures in Delhi dipped again, with the minimum temperature on Sunday recorded as 6.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal.

However, On Sunday, rains failed to dampen the spirit of the Beating Retreat ceremony held at the historic Vijay Chowk in Delhi as Indian classical tunes played by bands of the armed forces filled the air, marking the closure of Republic Day celebrations.

In Rajasthan, hailstorms damaged crops in Udaipur.

The weather department has predicted more moderate spells of showers over Delhi-NCR during the next few hours.

The fresh cloud patches over Delhi will likely trigger light to moderate spells of rainfall over New Delhi, the weather office said.

The IMD has also predicted light to moderate-intensity rainfall over parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.

Delhi usually gets around 17 mm of rain in January. This is the first rainfall of this season.
