"Merry Christmas," the suspense thriller starring Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif, earned around ₹1.1 crore in India on its sixth day at the box office, receiving praise for performances and storyline. The film, directed by Sriram Raghavan, released on January 12 during the Pongal holiday.

 

As per the latest report, "Merry Christmas" has amassed an estimated ₹13.83 crore nett at the domestic box office across all languages. The film is currently being showcased in theaters in three languages: Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

 

"Merry Christmas" kicked off with an opening of ₹2.45 crore nett across all languages in India on Friday. The film's earnings increased to ₹3.45 crore nett on Saturday and peaked with its highest day-wise figure of ₹3.83 crore nett on Sunday. Monday saw the film's business at ₹1.65 crore nett in India, and it maintained its steadiness on Tuesday, contributing an additional ₹1.3 crore nett to its domestic box office collection.

 

"Merry Christmas" narrates the tale of how a mundane Christmas Eve disrupts the lives of two strangers. The film is shot in two languages – Hindi and Tamil – with distinct supporting casts. The Hindi version includes Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan, and Tinnu Anand, sharing the screen with lead actors Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi. In the Tamil version, the roles are portrayed by Radhika Sarathkumar, Shanmugaraja, Kevin Jay Babu, and Rajesh Williams.

 

Will Merry Christmas have a sequel?

According to a recent interview with filmmaker Sriram Raghavan by India Today, there are no plans for a sequel to "Merry Christmas." Raghavan mentioned that he initially conceived the film as a small project and feels that leaving it as a standalone movie aligns with the essence of a Christmas special, emphasizing the importance of the emotions it evokes.
