Meta launches WhatsApp Channels

Now available in 150 countries globally

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, unveiled WhatsApp Channels on Wednesday. This new feature gives users a more individualized and private way to get updates from people and organizations they follow.

I'm excited to bring WhatsApp Channels to you all as a new, private method to receive information from the individuals and organizations you follow. I created this channel to share Meta-related news and updates. Looking forward to engaging with you all throughout the world," Zuckerberg wrote in his channel.

The goal of WhatsApp Channels is to give users a secure, private means to receive one-way broadcasts of critical updates from within the app. With the help of this new function, celebrities, organizations, and public figures now have more options for connecting with their audience.

It's interesting to note that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) quickly welcomed the idea and expressed their joy at working with WhatsApp to launch Channels. The much-awaited ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 is scheduled to begin in October, and BCCI has stated their desire to use Channels to generate interest in and support for the event.

Fans will be informed of crucial and accurate news and information regarding match schedules, timings, scorecards, etc. thanks to WhatsApp Channels. Join WhatsApp channels to receive updates from both on and off the field, advised BCCI.

In keeping with its commitment to privacy, WhatsApp emphasized that Channels are totally distinct from ordinary chats. The decision of whom to follow is kept private, protecting the secrecy of the information exchanged. Additionally, the firm guaranteed users' privacy, both as channel administrators and followers.

The messaging service also intends to launch an upgraded channel directory that will allow users to quickly identify channels specific to their nation and provide categories like new, most active, and popular channels based on the number of followers.

The company is already planning for the future as WhatsApp Channels launches globally over the coming weeks.
