'Metro Man' E Sreedharan joins BJP in Kerala ahead of state assembly polls

Mr Sreedharan joined the party during the ongoing Vijaya Yatra led by state president K Surendran ahead of state assembly elections.

E Sreedharan famously known as 'Metro Man' officially joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Malappuram on Thursday. Mr Sreedharan joined the party during the ongoing Vijaya Yatra led by state president K Surendran. "Metro man Sri E Sreedharan joins BJP at Mallapuram in the presence of Union Minister Sri RK Singh during Kerala Vijaya Yatra led by K Surendran," senior BJP leader BL Santhosh tweeted.

Former managing director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Mr Sreedharan had announced on February 18 that he would soon join the BJP. He said that he has been living in Kerala for the past 10 years since his retirement and he has seen different governments who have not done what can be done for the people. He added he is joining the BJP so that he can play his part, using his experience.

When Mr Sreedharan was asked about becoming the Chief Minister of the state he replied that he certainly wanted to be. He said that unless he becomes the Chief Minister the priorities will not be achieved. The BJP has only one MLA in the Kerala Assembly.
