Union ministry informs Parliament that rules for CAA are under preparation.
In the Lok Sabha on Tuesday the Ministry of Home Affairs informed the rules for implementing the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 are “under preparation” and to complete the exercise the ministry has got a secured extension till July. The minister of state for home affairs, Nityanand Rai in a letter to the Lok Sabha wrote “The rules under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 are under preparation. The Committees on Subordinate Legislation, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have granted extension for time up to April 9,2021 and July 9,2021 respectively to frame these rules under the CAA.”
The law was passed at the Parliament in December 2019 and since then protests erupted across the country, Delhi had become the epicenter of the protests and over 50 people were killed as riots occurred.
