Mild Blast Near Jorhat Military Station

Sound Heard at Army Gate

Defence sources reported a mild blast sound near the Army gate at Jorhat Military Station in Assam.

Sources indicate that the explosion sound was heard in Jorhat this evening. The blast occurred near the gate of the army station in the Lichubari area of the town around 8 pm, as reported by a police official.

District Commissioner Pullock Mahanta and senior police officials have arrived at the scene and are currently inside the camp.

Security measures have been heightened in the area, with increased patrolling across the town.

The ULFA(I) stated in an email on Sunday that they had claimed responsibility for the recent blasts in Tinsukia and Sivasagar. The attacks were reportedly in response to the perceived 'arrogance' of Director General of Police G P Singh.

One person was arrested after a grenade blast near an army camp at Dirak in Tinsukia on November 22. However, details of the sound of an explosion near a CRPF camp on December 9 have not been confirmed by the police.

Following the ULFA's claim, the Director General of Police (DGP) posted on X that every personnel of Assam Police, Army, and CAPF takes an oath under the National Flag to protect the integrity and sovereignty of the country.

"We are committed to eradicating the remnants of terrorism that hinder the growth of our state. If we have to sacrifice our lives for this cause, we shall not hesitate. Our determination remains unwavering in utilizing the full might of the law against those who obstruct our state's growth, progress, and development," he stated.
