Monuments, Museums under Central government will be closed till 15 May

India is suffering a vicious second wave of Covid-19, recording almost 20 lakh fresh infections this month alone.

According to the statement given by A.S.I  officials, all the Monuments and museums under the central government's control will be closed till May 15 because of the surge in coronavirus cases. This effect has been issued by ASI (Archeological Survey of India) which stated that "Due to prevailing Covid-19 it has been decided to close all centrally protected monuments, sites and museums under ASI with immediate effect till 15th May".

According to Nitin Tripathi, the Ministry's Media Advisor, monuments like Puri's Jagannath Temple and Somnath Temple only daily ‘puja’ will take place and no public gathering will be allowed.

The previous year,  all the monuments and sites maintained by the ASI were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic on March 17. They reopened in July with strict restrictions like mandatory wearing of masks, and proper social distancing. Meanwhile, a weekend curfew has been implemented in the national capital from 10 pm to 6 am, only essential activities will take place. Malls, gyms to be closed and in restaurants parcel services will be available in the capital.
