Moong Dal Pakora Chaat for summer evening cravings

Chaats are usually known to be unhealthy as we imagine the ingredients to be fried and everything cooked using a lot of oil. But here we have a healthy variation made with moong which are super healthy known as Moong Dal Pakora Chaat. 

 

This moong dal pakora chaat is so easy and quick to make that it can be made in a jiffy and the ingredients used are easily available in every house. This moong dal pakora chaat is the best way to kill your chaat cravings and the bonus is that its healthier than any other chaat. 

 

Moong dal is one of the most popular vegetarian superfoods. It is rich in high quality proteins and other essential nutrients. The high protein content contributes to building and repairing tissues and building muscles, bones, cartilage, blood and skin. 

 

It also contains some amounts of Vitamin E, C and K. An integral part of the Indian diet; it is incredibly light and easy to digest. Compared to other dals, this yellow dal is low in carbs, making it a healthier option. It is rich in potassium and iron. It helps lower blood pressure and protects against muscle cramping. 

 

In addition to this, it also contains folate, fiber and Vitamin B6. It has low glycemic index. This helps keep blood sugar levels under control and helps lower the risk of diabetes. 

 

Chef Kunal Kapur shares a super easy and fun recipe of Moong Dal Pakora Chaat recipe that can be made at home. 

 

 

(Ingredients) 

 

(For Pakori) 

 

* Moong Dal soaked - 1 cup 

 

* Chili powder - 1 tbsp 

 

* Cumin - 1 tbsp 

 

* Turmeric - 1/2 tbsp 

 

* Ginger chopped - 1 tbsp 

 

* Green chilly chopped - 1 tbsp 

 

* Salt - To taste 

 

 

(For sweet curd) 

 

* Curd - 1 cup 

 

* Sugar - 3 tbsp 

 

* Salt - to taste 

 

* Black Salt - 1/4 tbsp 

 

 

(Tamarind Chutney) 

 

* Tamarind pulp - 1 cup 

 

* Sugar - 4 tbsp 

 

* Chili powder - 1 tbsp 

 

* Roasted cumin powder - 1 tbsp

 

* Salt - to taste 

 

* Black Salt - 1 tbsp 

 

* Water - 1, 1/2 cup 

 

 

(Garnishes) 

 

* Mint Chutney - 1/4 cup 

 

* Pomegranate - 1/2 cup 

 

* Chaat masala - a generous pinch 

 

* Coriander springs 

 

 

(Method) 

 

To make tamarind chutney, boil all the ingredients together and cook till the chutney becomes thick. To make sweet curd, mix all the ingredients together and keep aside. To make Pakori mix, grind the soaked moong dal, cumin, ginger, garlic, salt, chilli powder and turmeric together to make a puree. Take little water while making puree. In hot oil, take out small portions of the mixture and deep fry. Place the pakoras in a plate and pour sweet curd on top, add tamarind chutney, put a spoonful of mint chutney. Sprinkle chaat masala, garnish with pomegranate and coriander leaves and serve immediately.
