More than 1 million displaced in Gaza after Israel attacks

Thousands of Palestinians were killed...

Israeli ground forces and fighter jets killed thousands of Palestinians and targeted a raid in the central Gaza Strip as it prepared for a land invasion. It came after more than two weeks of devastating airstrikes and more than 1 million displaced in Gaza.

Arab leaders made a joint plea on Thursday for a cease-fire to end civilian suffering and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. Residents are running out of food, water, and medicine, and U.N. workers have barely any fuel left to support relief missions.

The United Nations said Friday that “uninterrupted" aid was needed in Gaza after nearly three weeks of Israeli bombardment that has triggered a humanitarian crisis in the besieged Palestinian territory.

Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner general for UN agency for Palestinian refugees, said that “meaningful and uninterrupted" aid was needed for the Gaza Strip as he confirmed 57 of the agency’s staff had been killed during the war.
