More than 8 Lakhs People affected in UP Due to Heavy Rainfall


Eleven people died in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh, according to news agency PTI. More than 900 villages in 17 districts have been affected by floods following torrential rain and around 8.43 lakh people have been impacted due to the severe floods.

As heavy rainfall continues to lash Uttar Pradesh, wreaking havoc, a holiday has been declared for schools and higher educational institutions in Lucknow and other districts.

A statement issued by District Magistrate of Lucknow Suryapal Gangwar said that schools would remain closed on Tuesday as well.

People living in low-lying areas continue to face problems as rise in the water levels of the Rapti River in Gorakhpur is observed.

All higher educational institutions will remain closed in the districts where the authorities have declared a holiday in view of heavy rains, a state government order said. The district magistrates of various districts have declared a holiday for educational institutions in view of the heavy rainfall in the area.

Meanwhile, the Regional MeT department has issued an orange alert for UP's Awadh region and heavy showers have been predicted for Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Barabanki regions.

UP is expected to receive heavy rains along with thunderstorms till October 12 following which the intensity of rainfall will be decreased. Crops have also been damaged due to excessive rains in UP's Aligarh.
