Islamic preacher Mufti Salman Azhari was detained in Mumbai on Sunday by Gujarat Police in connection with a hate speech case, as per official reports.

 

The official mentioned that Mufti Salman is presently at Ghatkopar police station.

 

Hundreds of Mufti Salman's supporters gathered outside the police station, demanding his immediate release and causing traffic to come to a standstill in the area, leading the officials to enhance security measures.

 

Two individuals were arrested by Junagadh Police on Saturday following the circulation of a viral video featuring an inflammatory speech attributed to the preacher, as confirmed by a police officer.

 

The speech in question was given during an event held on an open ground near the 'B' division police station in Junagadh on the night of January 31, as stated by the police officer.

 

Following the viral spread of the video, an FIR was filed against Azhari and local organizers Mohammad Yousuf Malek and Azim Habib Odedara.

 

The charges include sections 153B (promoting enmity between different religious groups) and 505(2) (making statements conducive to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code.
