Myanmar security forces kill 38 anti-coup protesters

Since the coup, nearly 60 people have died so far. Apart from this, hundreds of agitators have been put in jails. The army has arrested 6 journalists, accusing them of violating the law.


There is a period of agitation across Myanmar for the restoration of democracy in the country. Wednesday has been the most violent day of protests against the military coup since last month. 38 more people have died in violent action by army and police against people who are protesting in a peaceful manner. Since the coup, nearly 60 people have died so far. Apart from this, hundreds of agitators have been put in jails. Eyewitnesses said that police and army personnel started direct firing on the protesters after giving warnings.

On the other hand, a lawyer has said that the Myanmar army has accused five other people associated with the media, including a journalist from the International Media Agency, for violating the law. If the charge is proved, they can be imprisoned for up to three years.

Pope Francis said on Wednesday that the hopes of the Myanmar people could not be crushed by violence. He also called on the military to release political prisoners. The Christian priest, who visited Myanmar in 2017, also appealed to the international community to intervene. He said, 'Myanmar's youth are entitled to a better future.
