Myanmar: Two Indians shot dead near the border

A local Myanmar media outlet published that two Indians were shot dead in Tamu town


Two Indians from Tamil Nadu were shot dead on Tuesday in the Tamu area of Myanmar. According to the media, the Indian authorities were trying to corroborate. The incident occurred 4 km away from Tamu, in Moreh around 12:30 pm. 

 

“We can’t verify or deny that two Indians have been killed in Tamu on my Myanmar side. We heard reports about it late on Tuesday and are trying to get in touch with authorities on the other side. We should have details by Wednesday” said B. GO Lianmang, superintendent of police of Manipur’s tengnoupal district. 

 

A loyal Myanmar media outlet Khit thit news agency published a report and said that the two who died at Tamu were in fact Indians. The two deceased were identified as P Mohan, 28 years old and M Iyarnar 35 years old, according to the reports. Mohan was identified as the son of the late Perumal of ward No 2 and Iyarnar as the son of Murga, of ward No 4, Moreh. Mohan was an auto-rickshaw driver who recently got married on June 9 and Iyarnar was a small shop owner. 

 

The Tamil Sangam said, “They entered Myanmar unexpectedly. The Myanmar army might have suspected them to be spies and shot them dead. There is a killing every day by the army in this part of Myanmar.” 

 

According to a treaty signed by between India and Myanmar, the citizens of the two countries can travel every day up to 16 km on either side or return to their countries by 4 pm.
