‘Mystery’ illness puts hundreds in hospital in Andhra Pradesh.

1 dead and 350 hospitalized in Eluru owing to Mystery illness


Because of an unidentified illness, over 350 have fallen sick while one died in Eluru city of Andhra Pradesh. Since Sunday night, 76 people have been moved to a hospital, 186 have been discharged from the hospital while 164 are still under treatment, officials reported.

“The people who fell sick, especially the children, suddenly started vomiting after complaining of burning eyes. Some of them fainted or suffered bouts of seizures. Some were in critical condition when they were bought in on Saturday, but now all of them are safe,” said a medical official at Eluru Government Hospital. A 24x7 helpline has been set up in the Eluru Municipal Corporation office.

Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy told that investigation is ongoing for the cause of the illness, which swept the town of Eluru. Also, a special medical team from AIIMS Mangalgiri, scientists of National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad and Indian Institute of chemical Tachnology have been sent for the same.

According to the state’s health minister, Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas, all patients had tested negative for Coronavirus. “We ruled out water contamination on air pollution as the cause after officials visited the areas where people fell sick. Water samples were sent for testing and no viral infection has been detected. All the patients are COVID-19 negative. It is some mystery illness and only lab analysis will reveal what it is,” he said.
