National Vaccination Day serves to raise awareness about the importance of getting vaccinated.

 

National Vaccination Day 2024: History 

 

In 1988, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, marking the first step toward eliminating the disease worldwide. Concurrently, in 1995, the Indian government initiated the Pulse Polio Vaccination Program, aiming to eradicate polio from the country. Since then, March 16 has been observed as National Vaccination Day.

On this day, both government and non-government organizations organize vaccination drives to ensure that everyone receives proper vaccination against infectious and deadly diseases. The aim is to raise awareness about the importance of vaccination for both children and adults.

 

It also aims to educate people about the importance of getting vaccinated to protect themselves from dangerous infections. Planned and comprehensive vaccination is essential to prevent the spread of various health issues. Moreover, misconceptions about vaccination are addressed and debunked on this day.

Adhering to global guidelines such as the Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) and the Universal Immunization Program under the National Rural Health Mission, 2005, along with initiatives like the 'Do Boond Zindagi Ki' polio vaccination campaign, provides ample services to mitigate risk factors effectively.

 

The Coronavirus pandemic has transformed vaccination practices, emphasizing it as a crucial civic duty to bolster health strategies. Coronavirus vaccination plans represent the latest addition to this imperative list that cannot be ignored.
