NATO meets amid Russia-Ukraine Conflict

NATO meet at Madrid as Nordic nations are invited to join the alliance

As NATO meets are being conducted in Madrid, Russia and China challenges before the alliance

If we go back to history, NATO was first established by the United States, Canada, and some other Western countries in 1949, in response to the perceived danger observed by the Wes due to the USSR’s expansion in post-war era Europe.

Today, the representatives of these NATO member states gathered in Madrid on Tuesday (June 28) for the summit till Thursday.

In this meeting, they plan to finalize their first strategic concept document since 2010.

This will aid them to oversee present challenges faced by the alliance and its strategic plans to action for the future.

Further a major development has been observed in the same.

As the NATO leaders have planned to formally invite Finland and Sweden to join the NATO alliance on Wednesday after Turkey agreed to drop its objections on the same, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said.

He further said that Turkey’s concerns will also be certainly taken into consideration through a memorandum.

As the nation “got what it wanted” from the two nordic nations before agreeing to back their joining of the NATO defense alliance.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's office said on Tuesday.

However, experts suggest that some presence of NATO in these regions is “geopolitically motivated”.

If consolidated, this strategic presence could potentially embolden some key areas including great powers, and regional aspirations. This may become a real security challenge for Norway itself though.

Henceforth, amid this meeting Russia and China’s concerns have sparked for very obvious reasons.
