Navjot Singh Sidhu is against Dalits, says AAP spokesperson

In a sudden move, Navjot Singh Sidhu on Tuesday resigned from the post of Punjab Congress chief.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj on Tuesday said that Navjot Singh Sidhu "could not bear" that a Dalit was made the chief minister of the state due to which he resigned from the post of Punjab Congress chief.

In a sudden move, Navjot Singh Sidhu on Tuesday resigned from the post of Punjab Congress chief. Mr. Sidhu sent his resignation letter to the party chief Sonia Gandhi. However, in his letter he assured that he will continue to serve the Congress.

Taking a dig at the recent development, Mr. Bhardwaj told reporters, "This shows that Navjot Singh Sidhu is against Dalits. One poor son was made the Chief Minister... this, Sidhu could not bear. It is very sad." The Aam Aadmi Party is in the opposition in Congress-led Punjab and will contest in the upcoming Assembly elections that are to be held in four months.

"The collapse of a man's character stems from the compromise corner, I can never compromise on Punjab's future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee," Mr. Sidhu wrote in his letter to Sonia Gandhi and also posted it on social media.

After months of dispute between him and Captain Amarinder Singh, Mr. Sidhu was appointed the state party chief on July 23. Later, Amarinder Singh resigned from the post of Chief Minister complaining of repeated "humiliation" by the party.

According to reports, Mr. Sidhu was not happy with the decision of the national party leaders of choosing Charanjit Singh Channi as the new chief minister. Reportedly, he also had issues with the inclusion of some members into the state Cabinet.
