In a sudden move, Navjot Singh Sidhu on Tuesday resigned from the post of Punjab Congress chief. Mr Sidhu sent his resignation letter to the party chief Sonia Gandhi. However, in his letter he assured that he will continue to serve the Congress.
"The collapse of a man's character stems from the compromise corner, I can never compromise on Punjab's future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee," Mr Sidhu wrote in his letter to Sonia Gandhi and also posted it on social media.
After months of dispute between him and Captain Amarinder Singh, Mr Sidhu was appointed the state party chief on July 23. Later, Amarinder Singh resigned from the post of Chief Minister complaining of repeated "humiliation" by the party.
According to reports, Mr Sidhu was not happy with the decision of the national party leaders of choosing Charanjit Singh Channi as the new chief minister. Reportedly, he also had issues with the inclusion of some members into the state Cabinet.
