Things you should keep in mind to avoid health complications as well as stay healthy during the fast.

Do not stay hungry for a long time during the fast, keep drinking water.

Stay away from oily things. If possible, do not eat fried things.

Eat sattvic food. Take vegetarian food only.

Do not fast if your health is already deteriorating.

Drinking tea with an empty stomach can cause stomach irritation, pain and ulcers. Therefore, after worshipping, drink juice or coconut water.

Do not consume sweet potato, banana, milk with an empty stomach. Eating sweet potatoes on an empty stomach can irritate and upset the digestive system. Similarly, bananas contain thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and folic acid. Eating bananas on an empty stomach can upset the balance of calcium and magnesium in our bodies. Apart from this, drinking milk on an empty stomach causes phlegm, spoils the digestive system and weakens the abdominal muscles.

You can eat different types of fruits if you are following a fruit diet. Fruits with high water content are healthy.

Water chestnut flour is beneficial in fasting. Protein is found in abundance in it.

Eat only rock salt during fasting. It does not increase blood pressure; on the other hand, it lowers it.

Potatoes and peanuts can be eaten in sago khichdi.

You can eat Samack rice khichdi.

Potato chips can be fried and eaten by making them in ghee. You can eat curd, potato or arbi.
