NEW DELHI: MCD ELECTIONS AAP INCLUDE 55% OF WOMEN CANDIDATES

MCD elections, 134 AAP candidates who managed to win are at least 71 are women. Which means nearly 55% of the AAP candidates are victorious women, according to the State election commission data.

 

On Wednesday 250 wards were declared the MCD poll results. While AAP had majority by winning 134 seats, congress and BJP had won 104 and nine seats, respectively.

 

AAP had fielded 138 women candidates whereas BJP and Congress nominated 136 and 129, respectively. In BJP, from 136 women candidates, 52 win.

 

 Shagufta Chaudhry, a woman candidate from Congress, win with a huge margin 15,193 votes.

When candidates from various political parties managed to win seats, Unlike 2017 municipal elections, this time, not a single ward has gone to parties that are small players in Delhi. Only three Independent candidates have won.

 

Neema Bhagat, Satya Sharma and Kamaljeet Sehrawat, three former women mayors of Delhi who fought on BJP tickets emerged victorious in the civic polls. 

 

While Bhagat and Sharma had served as the east Delhi mayor, Sehrawat is a former mayor of south Delhi.

 

Sehrawat, who won in Dwarka-B ward, through Twitter thank voters. Sharma won from Gautam Puri ward.
