The southwest monsoon which covered the entire country till July 2, six days ahead of July 8, has shifted slightly northwards and is very likely to continue to shift further northwards towards its normal position in the next 2 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said.

However, as usual, the rainfall in different parts of the country has led to severe floods, cloudbursts and landslides at some places, choking normal life and travel.

On Tuesday, a cloudburst was reported from Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district which damaged several houses in Shalkhar village. During the cloudburst, small water canals and some vehicles also got buried, ANI reported.

In another development, at least eight people sustained injuries in a landslide in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district, as per the State Disaster Management Authority, PTI reported.

In both incidents, no casualties have been reported so far.

In Maharashtra's Chandrapur too, the flood situation has continued to remain grim, severely affecting lives. Wardha district also witnessed incessant rainfall with overflowing dams on Tuesday. Earlier on Monday, an Orange alert had been issued for the districts Gadchiroli and Gondia by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai by predicting a thunderstorm and lightning with heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places.

In other related news from Gujarat, 60,000 cusecs of water were released from the Ukai dam which has been built across the Tapi River in the Tapi district as the region witnessed heavy rainfall in the past few days.

The weather body has also predicted that Delhi could receive light rain or see thunderstorms in a few places on Tuesday.

In Rajasthan too, heavy showers were recorded in various districts since Monday with Bhungra in Banswara recording the highest 203 mm rains. Since Monday morning, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been recorded at isolated places in Banswara, Chittorgarh, Jhalawar, Bundi, Dungarpur, Sirohi, Kota, and Rajsamand districts.

The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places for three to five days over East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.

Heavy rainfall is also very likely at isolated places in Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gujarat Region, Madhya Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala.
