Only green crackers to be manufactured: Environment minister

ONLY GREEN CRACKERS TO BE SOLD

Gopal Rai, environment minister on Friday said that "The city government has directed All district magistrate and Delhi Police to ensure that only green firecrackers to be stored and sold in the national capital during Diwali and upcoming festival. People can use firecrackers between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on the festival like the Diwali and Gurupurab and upcoming festivals on Christmas Eve and new years it would be 11:55 p.m. till 12: 30 a.m only.

According to an order issued by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC)

, "The Delhi government has inquired all the district magistrate and deputy commissioner of police to acknowledge with the direction and submit a daily action taken report to DPCC and only licence traders can sell firecrackers "(PESO) Prescribed standard number E-Commerce website can accept orders only in online mode and can sell through it.


In 2018, the Supreme Court prohibited the use of polluting firecrackers and permitted the sale of green firecrackers in a bid to control pollution. Green crackers are not as contaminated as a conventional type of firecrackers and contain at least 30% less particulate matter such as sulphur dioxide and Nitrogen dioxide.

According to CSIR- National environmental engineering research institute was formulating green crackers but only a few variations are available in the market last year due to some licensing requirements the Minister had earlier said that the government will begin an anti cracker campaign from 3rd November under its special 11 squares of the DPCC and city police will inspect firecracker manufacturing unit to protect that there is no old product left of firecrackers.
