'Orange Alert' Issued For Delhi

Delhi witnesses scorching heat!


National capital witnesses scorching heat in the city. The extreme heatwave Conditions are creating problems for the daily commuters in the city.

 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Delhi on April 29 and the heatwave is expected to continue till at least May 2. A western disturbance thereafter might calm the temperatures a bit.

 

The IMD has also forecasted heat wave conditions in many places with severe heat waves at isolated places. There is also a possibility of dust storms accompanied by gusty winds (speed 40-50 kmph) towards evening/night over five days.

 

The IMD uses four colour codes for weather warnings -- "green" (no action needed), "yellow" (watch and stay updated), "orange" (be prepared), and "red" (take action).

 

An intense heatwave also broiled Delhi on Wednesday, with the Safdarjung observatory recording a maximum temperature of 43.5 degrees Celsius, the highest in April in 12 years.

 

Last year in April, it recorded a monthly average maximum temperature of 37.30 degrees Celsius. It was 35.30 degrees Celsius in 2020 and 37.30 degrees Celsius in 2019.

 

The heatwave, however, is expected to abate from Monday under the influence of a western disturbance, which is likely to affect northwest India from the night of May 1. The city may witness light rainfall and thunderstorms between May 2 and May 4.
