Over 100 Fever Cases and 4 Deaths Under Investigation

Dengue Outbreak Afflicts…

Dengue has been affecting the NCR region for several weeks, resulting in a significant decline in platelet counts in many patients and leading to hospitalizations in some instances. However, the impact appears to be most severe in Bhanera.

A health department team is visiting the village of Muradnagar, where over 100 people have reported dengue-like symptoms.

Bhanera, part of the village, has witnessed four deaths suspected to be dengue-related. The health department is investigating these fatalities. The village has a population of 4,500.

"Medical professionals are stationed in the village to oversee the health of residents, and health authorities are collecting samples from individuals exhibiting dengue symptoms for testing.

Additionally, they are obtaining drinking water samples from households," stated Dr. RK Gupta, the district surveillance officer in Ghaziabad.

"We have records of four deaths that could be linked to dengue, and we are currently conducting a thorough investigation. Since all the affected individuals had undergone testing at a private laboratory, we have requested their reports and additional information.

Depending on the results of this audit, we may officially categorize these deaths as dengue-related," he further explained.

Residents report that the village pond has been dirty for a while, causing fish to die. Now, dogs are going into the pond to find food.

Madan, a resident, pointed out that the village lacks cleanliness, and the polluted pond may be a breeding ground for mosquitoes, potentially causing the infections that led to the deaths.

Health officials have requested civic authorities to inspect and clean the village pond. Additionally, they've gathered 50 drinking water samples and confirmed that the water quality is acceptable.

Medicines are available for people with dengue symptoms while their test results are pending. Those who test positive receive treatment at either the Muradnagar community health center or the government-run health and wellness center in Bhanera.

A doctor at the Bhanera center mentioned, "We're examining patients in Bhanera and nearby villages like Suhana and Khimati. We have enough beds at our facility."

Currently, the confirmed dengue cases in Ghaziabad this season have reached 962, surpassing last year's total of 900 cases. On Tuesday, Ghaziabad recorded 16 new dengue cases, and 53 health teams conducted inspections for mosquito larvae in 1,976 households across 47 different locations.
