Parkash Singh Badal Returns Padma Vibhushan over ‘betrayal of farmers’

Former Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal has returned his Padma Vibhushan award to the Government


Former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has returned Padma Vibhushan to protest against the treatment meted out to protesting farmers by the Central government.The second highest civilian honour of the country, Padma Vibhushan was received by him, in 2015 but he has decided to return his Padma Vibhushan award in protest against the farm laws amid the ongoing farmers’ agitation. 

Mr Badal, whose Shiromani Akali Dal has pulled out of the NDA alliance over the farmers' protest, stated he was registering his protest against the government's "betrayal of farmers".A group of top sportspersons from Punjab have said they will return their awards and march to Delhi on December 5 in solidarity with the farmers.

"The farmers have been holding peaceful agitation for several months and have been fighting for their right,But water cannons and teargas shells were used against them by Delhi police," Olympic hockey player and Arjuna awardee Sajjan Singh Cheema said.

On the other hand Leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa who is the member of Rajya Sabha has also returned his Padma Bhushan to protest against the government over farm-laws.
