Pashupati Kumar Paras elected unopposed LJP National President

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accepted Pashupati Kumar Paras as the floor leader of the LJP in the lower house.

Pashupati Kumar Paras on Thursday was elected unopposed National President of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). Younger brother of late Ram Vilas Paswan, former Union Minister and founder of the LJP, Mr Paras had initiated the coup. On Monday, five of six MPs of the LJP joined hands against their party president Chirag Paswan, son of Ram Vilas Paswan and wrote to the Lok Sabha Speaker to identify them as a separate group. Following which, on Tuesday Chirag was removed as the party president by the rebels. In retaliation, Chirag "expelled" the five rebels, including his uncle which resulted in a fight between the two factions of the LJP. On Wednesday, Chirag wrote to the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urging him to issue a circular that states Mr Paswan still holds the position of the leader of the party in the Lok Sabha.  However, Mr Birla accepted Mr Paras as the floor leader of the LJP in the lower house instead of Chirag Paswan and virtually gave the rebel faction official endorsement.
