PIL In Supreme Court against Farmers Protest

A PIL filed against removal of farmers as they block emergency services and increase risk of COVID-19 infections

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) had been filed by advocate Om Prakash Parihar  in the Supreme Court seeking an immediate eviction of the farmers protesting against the three farm laws in the Delhi-NCR border areas where the farmers have now been protesting for eight straight days.

The PIL states that it is “necessary to remove the gathering” as the ongoing protest is coming on the way of many emergency services like medical assistance that is needed to control the spread of the corona virus and also to attend the patients who are in need of medical assistance. Further the plea says “since the virus is very contagious and if by chance this coronavirus disease takes the shape of community spread it will cause havoc in the country.”

Demands of shifting the protestors to other places has also been mentioned in the PIL and the borders which have been blocked due to the protest must be reopened and further it states that mask wearing and social distancing must be strictly implemented in the protest groups.
