"PM Modi avoided having a discussion on Farm Law Repeal," says: Opposition

Farm bill repealed in 2 hours without discussion in the Winter Session

New Delhi: The three controversial Farm laws for which the entire nation especially the farmers were waiting has repealed yesterday. It also made a history of the faster undoing of law in independent India as the bill was passed within two hours without discussion.

According to the sources, the Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021 was introduced in the Lok Sabha at 12.06 pm and passed at 12.10 pm. The house adjourned within seconds amid loud protests from the opposition benches. Quickly after, the Bill was cleared in the Rajya Sabha as well.

The Fram bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on the very first day of the 25-days long Winter Sessions in the Parliament.

The blink-and-miss proceedings were wedged between multiple adjournments over disruptions.

Earlier, back in 2020 when the bill was passed the Govt. avoided having a discussion. Now, a year after when it was a turn to roll back (repeal) the law, the Modi Govt was avoiding having discussions and questions, said the opposition members.

According to the Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, referring to the violence in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3 said, "We demanded a discussion on the repeal Bill to speak about the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and orders. Without discussion, the Bill has been passed."

The opposition slammed and referred to Prime Minister's words just before the session started that the central government was ready to reply to all questions.

As the Lok Sabha member said, "There have been six repeal Bills in the past but there were discussions in all the earlier occasions. The government doesn't want the Opposition to speak."

"This government doesn't want discussion. They have a problem with the debate," said Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said the Bill will now go to the Rajya Sabha for passing.

"The demand was that the farm bills be withdrawn. Even the opposition favoured it. When we were bringing the bill they started disrupting the house. Why were they protesting? It was deliberate," Mr Joshi said.
