PM Modi Expected to Lay Foundation Stone For New Parliament Building By December

Parliament building foundation stone to be laid down by PM in December


PM Narendra Modi  is most likely to lay a foundation stone for the construction of a new Parliament building in the month of December this year, said some prominent news sources.

The statue of Mahatma Gandhi and Bhim Rao Ambedkar and three other sculptures in the Parliament complex are to be relocated temporarily due to the construction and will be installed at prominent places within the new complex after the completion of the new project was said by an eminent news source.Under the Central Vista redevelopment project the new Parliament building will be constructed next to the present one and is expected to be completed within 21 months.

The Central Vista’s redevelopment project - the nation’s power corridor, envisions a triangular parliament building, a common central secretariat and revamping a 3Km long Rajpath starting from the Rashtrapati Bhavan to the India Gate.December 10 is the tentative date for laying of the foundation stone of the new Parliament building but the final date will depend on the availability of the Prime Minister, according to a  prominent news agency.

The ambition of the government is to create “paperless offices” so the new parliament building will now be equipped with latest digital interfaces and will also have separate offices for all the MP’s.To showcase India’s democratic heritage the new building will have a grand Constitutional hall, a lounge for the MP’s, a library, multiple committee rooms, dining areas and parking for automobiles.The Tata Projects Limited won the bid for the construction of a new parliament building in September at the cost of 861.90 crore rupees.

The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) said “The plinth of the new building shall match that of the existing one, which is approximately 1.8 meters above ground level”. As claimed by the CPWD the functioning of the existing building will continue during the execution of the new project. Once the new building is built the existing building will be used for other purposes.
