PM Modi Flags Off 100th Kisan Rail Today.

100th Kisan Train Flagged Off by PM Modi.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Monday announced that PM Narendra Modi will flag off the 100th Kisan Rail services from Sangola in Maharashtra to Shalimar in West Bengal via video conferencing at 4:30 PM. The Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal will also be present on the occasion.

The PMO on Saturday stated that “Kisan Rail has been a game changer in ensuring fast transportation of agricultural produce across the nation. It provides a seamless supply chain of perishable produce.” Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched the first service of the ‘Kisan Rail’ on August 7 via video conferencing. The service was launched between Maharashtra’s Devlali and Bihar’s Danapur the service was later expanded to the eastern state of Muzaffarpur after receiving a good response. Initially it was a thrice a week frequency train which was later converted into a weekly service. The central government has extended a subsidy of 50% on the transportation of fruits and vegetables.

The 100th ‘Kisan Rail’ launched a day before the sixth round of talks between the center and the farmer unions is likely to take place. Earlier five rounds of talks between the two have failed to break the deadlock between the two sides. Today the ongoing farmers protest against the three contagious farm laws introduced by the union government earlier this year enters day 33. The farmer unions proposed on Saturday that in their response to the government’s invitation to hold the talks between them at the date and time of their choice is now fixed on December 29 at 11 AM. Initially the government's proposal to the farmers union in this regard was rejected by the farmers.
