Inauguration of key power sector projects in Kerala


On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and inspired the dream of development. He laid the foundations of key projects of power and urban sector in Kerala on a virtual platform. He inaugurated Pugalur-Thrissur Power Transmission Project, Kasaragod Solar Power Project and Water treatment plant at Aruvikkara and also sowed the seeds of Integrated Command and Control Centre at Thiruvananthapuram and Smart Roads project. Moreover, the PM also highlighted that development projects are initiated in various parts of Kerala and deals with a wide range of sectors.

"We are making efforts to power and strengthen this ecstatic state, whose people work tirelessly to pay their immense contributions in the country's progress," PM Modi said. These empowerment projects will build the steps of achieving pioneering heights. Stressing his focus on Solar energy, he said, "Our every accomplishment in the field of Solar energy will unveil a weapon to fight against climate change and will build a strong support base for entrepreneurs. Meanwhile, we are making significant progress in connecting farmers of the nation with the solar sector to transform our 'Annadatas' to 'Urjadatas' ".

The 320V Pugalur (Tamil Nadu) - Thrissur (Kerala) power transmission is a Voltage Source Convertor (VSC) based High Voltage Direct Convertor (HVDC) Project. It imbibes India's first HVDC link featuring state-of-the-art VSC technology. The plant has been built over a cost of Rs 5070 crores and is aiming to supply 2000MW power in western region. Continuing the chain of glory, under the National Solar Energy Mission, PM Modi also dedicated the 50 MW Kasaragod Power Plant Project. Encompassing an area of 250 acres of land, it runs through Paivalike, Meenja and Chippar villages of Kasaragod district. The total cost incurred for the project is Rs 280 crores.

The event also witnessed inauguration of 75 MLD (million litres per day) Water treatment plant at Aruvikkara under the umbrella of AMRUT Mission. This will facilitate supply of clean drinking water to people of Thiruvananthapuram and will compensate the water supply in the city in the event of disruption of water supply due to maintenance work in existing treatment plants. He also established Integrated Command and Control Centre for devising smart solutions for Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation. It will also provide a platform of action during emergency situations for coordinated workflow, owing to funds of Rs 94 crores.

The Smart Road Project to be implemented at a cost of Rs 427 crores envisions converting 37km of existing roads in Thiruvananthapuram to world class smart roads by adopting all overhead utilities and road junction improvement. The event was graced by the presence of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, minister of power and new and renewable energy RK Singh and Union minister for housing and urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri.
